The Sad State of Port-Au-Prince

Tuesday, 19. January 2010 - 9:01 pm

The world has it’s eye on Haiti. What happened in Port-Au-Prince and the surrounding cities has left untold amounts of people homeless, injured, hungry or, worst of all, dead . The latest report is saying the death toll could be up to nearly 200,000. It’s a disaster of unbelievable proportions. Some of the worlds best journalists and photojournalists have been covering the story, here are a few things that stood out.

Damon Winter from the NY Times has these two galleries [ one two ].

Dominic Nahr and Julie Platner from the WSJ have also taken some amazing shots.

The Ciné Institute, a Haitian film production school, has students producing some great pieces about the aftermath.

Naomi Klein has written a couple pieces already including this one titled The Ten Things the US Can and Should Do for Haiti.

On the other side of the coin there is a piece here about the crowds of photojournalists that disasters attract.

[Update]
Robert Hariman at No Caption Needed just wrote this piece about the “the long strands of anxiety, pain, and desolation defining the losses felt by loved ones around the globe.”
